Twice a Week

Twice a week, during the winter months, you will find my family in the gym of one of the county's schools, cheering my son on at a basketball game. Like me, my son is vertically challenged LOL, but he doesn't let that stop him.  He can stand up against the best of them.  His lightning feet move him up and down the court with ease.  He's #4 and he's definitely got game.

Supplies used: Patterned paper-Karen Foster Designs, The Paper Studio; Cardstock-Bazzill; Stickers-Recollections;  Brad-Stamping Station; Printed twill-my stash; Die Cuts-Quickutz

I Am Speechless

As I read through my Blogger dashboard, checking out the new posts on the blogs I follow, one post in particular caught my eye.  The title of the post was "Ode to a Gem" and there was a photo of a bunch of diamonds.  I chuckled to myself as I am partial to Gems (imagine that).  I clicked on the post, expecting to read about a new jewelry purchase or gift of some sort.  As I started reading, I realized the the post wasn't about jewelry at all, but about something entirely different.  As I continued to read,  it became harder and harder to keep my composure, and like my title says, I'm speechless, so I'll let you read the post for yourself.  Click on this link:  Ode to a Gem

I continue to strive to let my light shine every day.  How about you?

Be blessed.

You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.  Matthew 5:14-16

Our Daily Bread Designs

Seems I've gotten hooked on scrapbook challenges lately.  Our Daily Bread Designs is a Christian rubber stamp company.  Their main focus is on cardmakers, but this year they have started reaching out to scrapbookers, and will be creating some of their new releases in a larger size to be used on scrapbook pages. (Like scrapbookers need another "tool" to start collecting LOL)  They issued their first scrapbook challenge this month, and since I just happened to have a set of Our Daily Bread Designs stamps in my stash, I decided to play along.  The rules are simple...create a layout using a sketch they provided and the layout must include Our Daily Bread Designs Stamps.

Here's what I came up with:

Supplies used:  Pattterned Paper-Imaginisce, Letter Stickers-Cosmo Cricket, Die Cut-Quickutz, Stamp- Our Daily Bread Designs, Ink-Tsukineko & Colorbox, Staples-Tim Holtz

I'm currently working on an album from our Summer 2010 vacation so I'll be sharing some vacation layouts as I get them completed. Today's layouts are from our trip to the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL.

This layout is based on a sketch from one of the challenges at last night's Prayer and Paper Night at Christian Paper Crafts

The Dream Continues...

Pause, Ponder, Reflect...

The journaling reads...When I entered the kitchen, I discovered this on the refrigerator.  I asked TJ what motivated him to draw it and he said, "I just felt like it".  Sometimes he totally amazes me and I am so proud to be his mother.  1/17/11

A Little Peek

The Women's Ministry at my church sponsors a Friday morning scrapbooking group.  We meet every Friday morning to fellowship and work on our scrapbooks.  Some Fridays I think we do more talking than scrapbooking!  On the 2nd Friday of each month, I teach a project.  Usually it's a layout, but occasionally we make cards or do some other project.  So for my blog readers that are members of the scrapbooking group,  I'm giving you a little peek at Friday's project.

This layout uses few supplies: Bazzill Bling Cardstock, K&Co. 3-D Snowflake Stickers and 1 gem.  Tools used: Quickutz font dies and a Martha Stewart punch.

If you live in the Hampton Roads VA area and have a military id card, I'd love to have you join us on Fridays. Just leave me a comment and I'll contact you with the details.

Time

I don't think I've ever done a layout without photos before,  but since it's a new year I thought it was time I gave it a try.  When I unwrapped my 2011 calendar I noticed something printed on the packing cardboard.  I first thought it was just a manufacturer's advertisement, but upon closer inspection I discovered that in addition to the ad, there was a spiritual message.  I decided to capture the message in a layout to include in my 2011 album.

Supplies used from my stash:  Clocks-Heide Swapp, Paper Ribbon-Flair Designs, Die Cut Paper-Bo Bunny, Charm-Crossed Paths, Brads, Ribbon, Distress Ink

When the time is right, will you be ready?????

Happy Birthday Dad!!!

Today is my Dad's 82nd birthday.  To look at him, you'd never guess that he's 82.  I hope I've inherited his genes.  He is in perfect health and very active in his church, community, and college alumni association.  He belongs to a Monday night bowling league, rollerblades, rides a motorcycle ( he's a Honda man) and goes RVing whenever he gets the chance. My brother and I are extremely blessed to have him as a father.

The photo in this layout was taken on Thanksgiving 2010 during a friendly family card game.

Supplies used from my stash:  Epoxy Tags and Tiny Alpha Stickers by Making Memories, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Brads
Other Supplies:  Patterned Paper- Fancy Pants Designs
Tools: Cricut (Don Juan cartridge), Corner Punch-Stampin Up

We love you Dad!!!    Have a wonderful birthday.

2011 Scrapbooking Goals

I don't make New Year's resolutions,  but I did set some scrapbooking goals for this year.  I didn't get to scrapbook as much as I'd wanted to in 2010 due to other things that were going on in my life at the time, so my first goal is to scrapbook more this year.  I'd like to keep up to date on my 2011 photos and then tackle some of the many unscrapped photos from years past as I have the time.  My second goal is to use my scrapbooking stash.  We all know that part of the fun of scrapbooking is buying new supplies, but as we get new things, some of the older items in our stash go unloved.  So, I am going to make an effort to use at least one older item on each of my pages.  In keeping with my goals, here's my first layout for 2011.  It's the title page for my 2011 album.

Supplies used from my stash:  Patterned paper by American Crafts, Me and My Big Ideas Rhinestone Words
Other supplies:  Glitter Cardstock, Gems
Tools used:  Quickutz,  EK Success Border Punch, Imaginisce I-Rock

As I write this, my son is in his room practicing his trombone for the district band auditions this Saturday.  Being choosen for district band is a big honor as only the best band students in the area get selected. If he had his way,  he wouldn't be auditioning, but it's one of those Mommy Do things.  I think he sounds really good, but the competition is stiff.  I'll let you know how it goes....

Be blessed

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year and welcome to my blog.  I decided to start this blog to share tidbits of my life and love of scrapbooking.  I'm new to the world of blogging so I'll just play it by ear and see how it goes. If any of you veteran bloggers have tips for a newbie, please feel free to share.

We welcomed in 2011 at watch night service at our church, Langley AFB Chapel. This has been a tradition of ours for many years.  After we entered the year in prayer,  we went across the street to the Chapel Annex for breakfast and fellowship.

I keep chronological scrapbooks and start a new album for each year.  My cover page for each album is always a layout of my family on New Year's Day.  I don't scrapbook in chronological order so most of my albums are still works in progress, but my goal for this weekend is to do the cover page for my 2011 album.   I'll post the page on the blog when it's finished, but in the meantime you can view some of my other projects in the Paper Gems slide show on the right.

I'm looking forward to sharing with you throughout this year.  May the Lord shower you with his love and blessings in 2011.
